What Vaccines Does My Dog Need for Boarding?

Planning a boarding stay for your pup at Springdale Pet Ranch? One of the most important steps in preparing your dog is making sure their vaccinations are up to date. Not only does this help protect your pet, but it also ensures the health and safety of every guest at our ranch.

Here’s what you need to know about vaccination requirements before your dog checks in.

What Vaccines Does a Dog Need for Boarding?

To maintain a healthy and secure environment for all our four-legged guests, Springdale Pet Ranch requires proof of the following core vaccines:

  • Rabies
  • Distemper (often part of a combo vaccine like DHPP)
  • Bordetella (also known as canine cough)

Most pet resorts ask that the Bordetella vaccine be administered within the last 9 months to ensure peak protection. Please provide updated vaccination records or have your vet send them directly to us prior to your pet’s stay.

Highly Recommended Vaccines

While not required, Springdale Pet Ranch also strongly recommends two additional vaccines for boarding guests:

  • Canine Influenza: Vaccination for this highly contagious respiratory infection is particularly important in social environments like boarding facilities.
  • Leptospirosis: This bacterial disease that can spread in wet or muddy areas and is transmissible to humans. Leptospirosis is also found in California sea lions, and sick sea lions may be found on beaches. Since leptospirosis is zoonotic and can spread to pets and humans, it is very important that active dogs that hike or go to the beach be vaccinated against this disease.

These optional vaccines offer added peace of mind, especially for active dogs or frequent boarders.

What About Cats?

Springdale welcomes feline friends, too. For our cat company, we require up-to-date vaccinations for:

  • Rabies
  • FVCRP (a combo vaccine for feline viral diseases)

We also recommend the feline leukemia vaccine for cats who go outdoors or have unknown exposure histories.

Why Are Vaccines So Critical?

Vaccines do so much more than meet our ranch’s requirements, they also help keep our community of pets safe. Here at Springdale, we pride ourselves on creating a fun, loving, and secure environment for your pets. That includes maintaining high standards for health protocols and hygiene.

Before You Arrive

If your dog is due for any of the required vaccines, we recommend scheduling a visit with your vet at least two weeks before boarding. This allows plenty of time for immunity to develop while reducing the risk of reactions during their stay.
