Lifestyle Assistance Training – COMING SOON

Lifestyle Assistance Dog Training: Enhancing Life with Your Canine Companion

Dogs have been our trusted companions for thousands of years, evolving alongside us in ways that make them more than just pets—but partners in our daily lives. At Springdale Pet Ranch, we believe in strengthening this human-canine bond through communication, trust, and teamwork. Our Lifestyle Assistance Dog Training is designed to teach dogs practical, everyday tasks that can make life easier for their owners, particularly those who may need a little extra help.

This program is not a service dog certification course but instead focuses on training companion dogs to assist with specific tasks, improving daily life and deepening the connection between pet and owner.

What is Lifestyle Assistance Training?

Our Lifestyle Assistance Training is designed for dogs who have already mastered basic obedience and are ready to learn more advanced, practical skills. Dogs in this program are trained to help in ways that make everyday life smoother, such as:

  • Retrieving dropped objects.
  • Opening drawers and doors.
  • Turning lights on and off.
  • Navigating tight spaces with their owner.
  • Providing calming behaviors like chin rests and snuggles.

Lifestyle assistance training is ideal for:

  • Individuals seeking to enhance their relationship with their dog through specialized training.
  • Elderly pet parents in need of help with day-to-day tasks.
  • Pet parents who could benefit from small but meaningful daily assistance.
  • Dogs who thrive on learning new skills and having a purpose.

Before enrolling, you and your dog will undergo an initial evaluation to determine the best training plan based on your goals, your dog's temperament, and their breed characteristics.

What Can Your Dog Learn?

Our Lifestyle Assistance Training curriculum includes a variety of helpful tasks that can be customized to fit your needs.

Comfort & Emotional Support Tasks

  • Settle – Teaching your dog to relax in a designated place for extended periods, until released.
  • Under – Encouraging your dog to settle under a table or desk—comfortably out of the way. Perfect for quiet companionship or when out in public, at the workplace, or in settings where dogs can legally accompany their humans.
  • Chin Rest – Training your dog to sit and rest their chin on you as a calming gesture.
  • Snuggle – Teaching your dog to give a gentle, comforting hug.
  • Nudge – Your dog will learn to lightly touch you as an alert/reminder when they sense anxious behaviors (e.g., tapping fingers, bouncing legs).
  • Lap: Sometimes we just want to let our dogs know it is OK to put their paws in our laps while we are seated and give us a big hug. This can even help to reduce anxiety and lower our heart rates while strengthening our bond.

Practical Assistance Tasks

  • Tug – Teaching dogs to pull open drawers, doors, or even the refrigerator.
  • Get It – Training your dog to retrieve dropped objects like keys or mail when you cannot retrieve the item yourself.
  • Movement Maneuvers – Teaching your dog to walk closely with at your side without bumping or pulling, including heeling, adjusting pace, and safely navigating narrow spaces.
  • Sit in Front – Helping your dog learn to sit attentively in front of you to calmy await further commands.
  • Center – Teaching your dog to stand or sit between your legs for added security or guidance.

These skills aren’t just useful—they create a meaningful, interactive relationship between you and your dog.

How the Program Works

Step 1: The Consultation

Your first step is a one-on-one consultation where our trainers will:

  • Evaluate your dog’s basic obedience skills.
  • Discuss what tasks would be most beneficial for your lifestyle.
  • Consider your dog’s breed, personality, and natural abilities to determine suitable training goals.

This consultation ensures that we create a personalized training plan that works for both you and your dog.

Step 2: Training Sessions

Springdale Pet Ranch has defined tasks we feel can benefit people who need some extra help but are not officially disabled. Our Lifestyle Assistance Training programs consist of three 30-minute training sessions per day that are part of a Stay & Tutor or a Play & Tutor program.  Each program is customized based on the skills chosen and the breed, temperament, and age of your dog.

Our Lifestyle Assistance Training packages include:

  • Per day pricing with minimum required days depending on skills chosen to allow for a complete program customization.
  • Three training sessions per day for your dog to work on and advance skills.
  • Mid-way check-ins with pet parents to discuss progress.

Step 3: Reinforcement & Bond Building

Training is a two-way street. Your dog will learn these skills, but the true magic happens when you and your dog practice them together. That’s why we emphasize:

  • Ongoing owner involvement to ensure consistency at home.
  • Unlimited phone support for continued guidance.
  • Three complimentary follow up lessons at Springdale Pet Ranch.
